The VA defines veteran as “a person who served in the active military, naval, or, air service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.”

According to U.S. Federal Law veterans are persons who served in any branch of the armed forces in the U.S. for a certain time-frame. Some of the uniformed services include the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Commissioned Corps of the Public Heath Service, and the Commissioned Corps of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.
